Behind the Bastards

CHAPTER

Nygard

Nygard was one of the largest, I think added for a time, the largest garment manufacturer to invest in Mexican factories and kind of the first days of NAFTA. The writers of that McKeelis Solidarity Network paper did not consider this to have been a good thing. In Canada, three of Nygard's Manitoba factories are certified by Unite, the North American garment and textile workers union. During union drives in the 1980s at his plants, Peter Nygard placed full page ads in Winnipeg newspapers stating his anti-union position. This pattern was repeated on a large scale by other businesses.
