The first thing Ursula wrote was poetry. When she quit writing novels in the last ten years of her life she continued to write poetry so you could say it is the most constant through line through her writing life herself as a poet. She had written writing sort of free verse for quite a long time and thought that's where she wanted to keep working and she resisted it. And then gradually she saw what the rest of us were doing.
