NBC at the time was doing this thing where they would put giant graphic ads like a football game kind of shit at the bottom of your show that you worked so hard on promoting. I don't know if during the shows there was sound but I remember they were big so anyway this was Bill making fun of that by by having calling back to joke and having the graphic come that big across the screen which I thought was funny.
