The Terror of the Israelites
The Israelites wanted to spend their lives in the closest possible proximity to God. They were eating manna from heaven and drinking water from a miraculous well. What they didn't understand was that God seeks 'a dwelling in the lower worlds' Much of the terror is about things not conventionally seen as religious at all, he says.
