Digital Uprisings: WikiLeaks and Cyber Warfare

This chapter explores the conflict between institutional authorities and internet activists during the WikiLeaks diplomatic cable release. It recounts the coordinated cyber attacks by 'Operation Payback' against financial institutions blocking WikiLeaks’ funding and examines the motivations behind these digital actions. Through the lens of an infiltrator aiming to expose the hacker group Anonymous, the narrative also addresses the controversial methods used in analyzing hacker identities and the crises emerging from unverified claims within agencies.
