Is the Jury Conviction Rate in Rape Cases Really Low?
This is not research that says there's no problem with the prosecution of rape cases. I was asked to look at whether it was true that the jury conviction rate was very low in rape cases. And we've certainly found that that's not the case. There are many reasons why people may or may not go through to a trial with their allegation. They may find the prospect of simply giving evidence and recounting their story to be too difficult for them. The system is attempting to introduce measures to help people with that. For instance, people are able to pre-record their evidence and therefore not have to go into court and face the person accused of committing the rape.
