Is There a Monster in the Room?

When I was about four or five years old, we were broken into, twice. For the first break-in, my mom didn't realize anything had happened until we got home. The second break-in happened three months later, only this time the guy broke in at nighttime while we were all asleep. It's like my mom interrupted them in the middle of doing something, and they climbed out of a second floor window as soon as he had heard us arrive.
