Chateau-Priana's Relationship to the Orient

The English largely experienced the Arabic world, or whatever Syed is calling the Orient. Chateau-Priana saw the Orient in its landscape as a way to get closer to God, so in a way it was also a passageway. The British didn't have this kind of relationship to the Orient, they didn't necessarily attach it to God,. Like theirs was less, maybe was more secular, that is, it didn't have as much of a relationship with the religious imperative here.
