John Brown and the Slave Insurrection
John Brown wanted enslaved people to see this as a moment of rising up against slavery and the institution of slavery in the south. He thought that if he could bring together a biracial group of men it was all it was going to take for enslaved people to rise up and throw off their shackles. It was the very kind of thing that men like Stonewall Jackson and John Wilkes Booth feared in the century before the Civil War.
