When the SPA 100 is up 30%, it's not because each stock is up 30%. It's because a handful of stocks are up 150% and the business is languishing. The theory was when you write options against individual stocks at a broader risk of portfolio, you'll have to assume the market. When you write actually you're tapping the gains of those great winners that you would have in that portfolio.
