When I'm reading science fiction or a fantasy book, there is much more world built than I see. We usually kind of suggest there's not like a convention on how to do it. So you can start with the universal level and work our way down to the micro scale. And we're gonna assume Earth-like planet. You can run with completely different species if you want. In one workshop where we had a whole bunch of people that were sentient cats,. And we decided that the Kalikos ruled the world.
