Bilbo faced great, great, great danger with the spiders to save his friends. He succeeds and he, his confidence grows tremendously because of this. Once you've overcome a huge challenge, it gets easier to deal with the others. We don't have to do huge deeds to be heroes. Many times a hug, a smile, good work is all that's needed.
