The History of Opposition to Female Athleticism
The founder of the International Olympics Committee strongly argued that women's athleticism should be excluded from the Olympic program. Women engaging in sports and any kind of athletic activities were often criticized, they were called manish and harassed in public. Many sport scholars have noted these conservative attitudes have severely hindered inclusive and equal participation.
