The Bread of the Exodus
Jesus breaks the bread and gives it to his disciples, who give it to the crowd. The gathering up of the bread afterwards is an event given some significance. One strange detail about this account that you may have noticed is that there are five thousand men besides women and children. That's not what you'd expect if you're going to feed a large number of people. This suggests that there's a numbering according to some different principle.
