The Evolution of Cities
archaeology shows, among other things, that surprisingly few of these cities contain signs of authoritarian rule. It also shows that their ecology was far more diverse than one believed. Cities do not necessarily depend on a rural hinterland in which serfs or peasants engage in back breaking labor. But it's become increasingly apparent that history's first city dwellers do not always leave a harsh footprint on the environment or on each other. And so this raises questions about what it was like to live in these sorts of cities? Part of the limit heres!
