The Diversity of Yemeni Stores in Oakland
The majority of small corner stores in Oakland are owned by Yemeni Americans. They really occupy a niche when it comes to these small businesses, so small grocery stores, liquor stores, as well as mobile phone stores more recently. Many of them are located in low income black and brown communities where there are no large grocery stores or chain stores for supplies.
