It's actually pretty hard to end up as a fossil. You don't be very unlucky. Fossils of us also probably wouldn't show that we were technologically advanced. And given how unlikely it is for anything to fossilize in the first place, it's a pretty unreliable way to guarantee that the future would know about us.

Was there a technologically advanced species living on Earth long before humans? And if one had existed, how would we know?
