The Jo Dynasty and Its Succession

The dynasty fell in 771 b c. According to chronicles, the king yo repeatedly summoned the eastern lords to come and defend the capital against barbarians. But archaeology and textual analysis has debunked this version of the story. It seems more that there was a succession dispute and power struggle between two parties in the capital in the 700 seventies b c. This split internal dissension then prompted barbarian hordes to invade, attack the capital and kill the king. The rival faction at lolang in the lowlands proclaimed the prince as the new king.
