The Battle of Richmond
Confederate batteries at Drewery's Bluff overlook the James River from 90-foot high cliffs. This all-important position is the last line of defense for Richmond, only seven miles upriver. A torrential downpour turns the sluggish Chickahominy into a swollen menace that washes out all but one bridge. The armies fight all afternoon without an organized, defensible position on either side.
