Twitter was the most, the people that were there were the most free speech besides Reddit. But I do think there was an over correction around 2021 and it's because there were real business implications for not moderating enough speech on the platform. Disney was going to buy Twitter and pulled out because harassment was so rampant and bad there wasn't enough content moderation.
Twitter rose to prominence as a global public square that helped enable the Arab Spring, but Elon Musk has changed all that. The platform is complying with governments more, and a murky algorithm and blue check jungle makes it feel less relevant and less reliable than ever before.
