Is There a Backwards Incompatibility?
There's no backwards incompatibility here that crate never promised that it wouldn't use memory. You could imagine that just like with nosedod today right there's usually a feature flag that you set if you want to use the standard library dependencies and you can turn it off or rather the other way around. If they ever started using infallible methods they would only use them behind the infallible feature flag, so anyone who didn't want that flag would not be affected by the change.
