Beass: Students find it even harder to realize that the probability of the data given the nu hypothesis is not one. He says he always falls back on a great example, such as if his students read in a newspaper that i have died,. then what is the probability that i have jumped out of an airplane? Most students will think that is a low probability. Beass: Theyr always a little bit shocked by the example. But i hope that the shock effect makes them remember it.
