Rules, a Short History of What We Live By
Lorraine Daston, Director Emerita of the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin is an author of rules. She points out that our lives are governed by rules and how they order so many aspects of our lives. Lorraine says we have paid only a modest amount of attention to their extraordinary diversity. In particular we haven't talked about the manner in which they are absolute or capable of including exceptions and qualifications. LZ: What do you think?
