Edson's first raiders were given the task land on a very small island across the channel called tilage. Initially, vander griff and his marine division did not run into overwhelming opposition when they first landed at guada canal. As the war wore on, though, it became obvious that greater and greater numbers of marines were needed to take these islands. And as a result, after about 20 months, the raiders were disbanded, at that particular time, folded into other marine units.
