Before iceland changed its approach, a senior police officer like Brinyar wouldn't have been called to the scene right after a suspected domestic violence case. That often happened days later, when victims may have changed their stories. Social workers didn't use to attend call outs either, now victims are offered one in every case. In some cases, suspects can be removed and banned from returning to the family home. Even if the victim doesn't press charges, police can still push a case to trial.
