Nehemiah's Prayer
Nehemiah's prayer at verse four was likely a silent prayer of little but a moment. He wanted to make a real difference, but he probably also feared ask for too much and meeting with annoyance or dismissal. The parathetical reference to the presence of the queen beside the king has been explained in several different ways by commentators. Perhaps the queen is mentioned because she was particularly favorably inclined to nehemiah. Commentators differ over the likelihood of nehemiah being a eunuch.
