The Effects of Social and Emotional Skills on IQ
We were so fixated with cognition, and we still are in a lot of areas. Look at PISA scores. We realize now, actually I'm part of a team doing this. OECD awarded a grant to the Educational Testing Service precisely to come up with measures of social and emotional skills. And it turned out that even though these parry kids had no higher IQs, they did have higher scores on PISA like tests. It was simply because they were trying harder. They were more motivated. These kids just took advantage of everything offered to them downstream, starting from age five when they left the program. So it's that kind of discovery.
