The estimate is 50% of the lion population which is estimated about 700 350 are permanently resident outside the protected area. Inbreeding is not an issue that translocation will necessarily address but definitely putting geographical separation means not just disease it could be a forest fire, cyclone or bad political decision so by by separating you are increasing the conservation prospects for the species.
