"There's a big difference between being liked and respected, which is going to be better for you," he says. "I don't feel good being emotional in general because I know that's would be really stupid stuff." His mom was a real motherfucker when it comes to emotional manipulation. He learned very early that he could let himself be drawn into this type of ridiculousness or she could be non-reactive.
