The Importance of Bravery in a War

Orwell characterised the qualities of the English ruling class, which he characterised as bravery. He notes that the British ruling classes are perfectly happy to die on the battlefield. Orwell's reading of the history of England is that incompetence rises under this kind of system. The English people were facing a war in which that just won't cut it anymore and hypocrisy must be replaced by something else.
