The Role of Social Structure in Norms

Do we have a society that is structured in a particular way and then norms arise from it or is it the other way around? It has to be both I think. We produce norms by our actions, but also the kinds of things that we do are clearly shaped by the social structures around us. And so there's a feedback, there's I think a complementarity between social structure and norms that remains to be explored.
