The game more or less functions on a smash the square and triangle buttons then just like let the powers do their thing you can get by right doing that. There are some attacks where the game will give you a prompt for like R1 and if you want you'll let you dash out of the way before a meter finishes. It does help a lot with staggered to it's interesting though because it's like I didn't know that it was able you were able to just do it in between every single hit until I went to the ability for magic burst. And that small wrinkle was neat. But yes you are gonna get a lot more options when you when you have access to more powers
