The Eucharist Is the Most Perfect of All the Sacraments
The Eucharist is the most perfect of all the sacraments in terms of ordering them in a hierarchy, says Aquinas. The order has to do with perfection in terms of how close is the kind of effect associated with the sacrament to the whole point of the form itself. So what is the sign of the Eucharist when we think about it in relation to us right here and right now, communion? What is it when we look to the past, sacrifice? And here we're just talking about sacrifice as a sign, right? Not a moral act yet, but we'll get there.
