Samos and the Fall of Melidas

Samos itself was spared from destruction by the Persians because of the Samian defection at Lade. When his D.A. is heard of the fall of Melidas, he seems to have appointed himself as leader of the resistance against Persia. Histias then gathered a large force of Ionian's and Aeolians and went to Besiege Thasos. However, he then received the news that the Persian fleet was setting out from Melidas to attack the rest of Ionia. The ensuing battle was hard fought, but ended when a Persian cavalry charge routed the Greek line. Histias surrendered to the Persians, thinking that he would be able to talk himself into a pardon
