The Transformation of Privacy in America
There are all sorts of resonances between past and present. The most important transformation is just how much are concerns about individual privacy attenuated over time. As late as 1967, the majority of Americans did not believe that the government or law enforcement had a right to listen to private conversations. Today, I think those political concerns have been pushed to the margins.
