Southern Pacific bought trolley cars and converted them into bus routes. People at the time that thought it was a conspiracy. This wasn't this conspiracy that suddenly, you know, people discovered 50 years later. The last red car ran in 1961. Henry Huntington's goal was to connect his far-flung properties but he couldn't provide mass transit.
