Without bats, the chewing gum industry might never have existed if it as ent for the chiklay tree. One of the biggest declines ever in American bats came during the war of 18 12 when extensive bat caves were mined for saltpeter for gunpowder. Researchers found that bats saved farmers nearly 800 million dollars a year by eating bugs.
