When we have these narratives usually there's about 10 or so negative thoughts negative cognitions i go along with. A part of what i try to do is let's find something that feels meaningful and helpful when that negative narrative pops up for you. I also use a set of emotional rights with my clients which might not all feel true for you but if they don't really connect  we can go over it and change any of the words in order to help us believe this idea.
