The Relationship Between Salted and Acute Kidney Injury

There are multiple studies showing an association between saline use and acute kidney injury. I don't know of any that show that saline is better from a renal function standpoint. The SALT-ED salted trial was published in the New England Journal. And so they looked at a secondary outcome that showed of major adverse renal events within 30 days. There was a statistically significant difference between saline and the balance fluids with an odds ratio of 4.7 versus 5.6 for these major adverse renal Events.
