AI as a Scapegoat
The scapegoating mechanism is not just the pure form that we usually think it is. It's this more general form of sort of putting slightly undeserved blame onto a person and then expelling them. The appeal I think of apocalypticism in this time of Jesus as well, is that once you claim you have this sort of binary outcome and then you hold the keys to it, that lends you a form of moral superiority. And so I think Gerard is naturally quite suspicious of all these things because they provide you so much power.
