Are We Still Having High Levels of Claims for Unemployment Insurance?
The Federal Reserve's forecast is that US output will contract by 30.7% this year, and unemployment will finish at 7.6%. So we're still seeing an elevated level of job separation certainly higher than we saw in the Great Recession or in previous times of economic downturn. It is lower than it was at the beginning of the pandemic, but certainly not at a level even close to normal. We are seeing some labor force participation declines and many people unable to find work who would like to be working.
