Theoditus and the Library of Alexandria
Theoditus brings news to julius caesar that the library of alexandria is in flames. Caesar says, it's better egyptians should live their lives and dream them away with the help of books. Bernard shaw made asar reply: will you go down to posterity as a barbarous soldier too ignorant to know the value of books? The context though, is imperialism. Indeed, the advance into northeast africa of the roman empire was destined to become greatest empire the west had ever yet seen.
