The Problem With Honoring the Wishes of the Dead
I think everybody feels it and I think that feeling of that obligation is the explanation probably for a lot of the way that we set up these legal institutions to honor the wishes of the dead. So there's the problem of we do feel an obligation and then we have to ask the question, how far does that obligation extend? Does it extend forward in time up to a certain limitation? And then another question is, does it extend to harms that can accrue on the living? And if so, how much harm are we allowed to permit?
