I use a manifest file myself. Are there things in the manifest file that you can't do with a tag or is it just nicer to put it all into one file? Oh, yeah, you're right. I'm going to say 1.1%. 8.4%, which isn't surprising to me because like if you're doing a PWA, like that's the first thing you do. And many of these generators, like your icon to do an icon generator just spits out a manifest for you anyway. We also use display standalone, which I don't know if you can do via meta tag.
