The Paradigm Change in Psychology

Psychology was running into problems 20 years ago, he says. But they had no investigative ways for changing what was happening in the brain. They cut it onto the idea that if you give a very large amount of oxytocin internationally, squirting it up to the nose, they will may get into the brain and we can observe what is going on as a consequence. For the psychologists, this really was a paradigm change. Suddenly, it seemed possible to use a completely novel experimental approach to start to analyze social behavior and psychological behavior. I think they changed the way they did their experiments. There are still hundreds of papers being published every year using this approach. It's an interesting case study
