The Importance of a BIPOC LGBTQ Community in River City
The idea of friendship homophily is true kind of across the board in the US if the idea that people tend to be friends with people who are very similar to them have shared similar identities. If you're living in a community that's predominantly white, the white folks have much more of a chance of finding friends than BIPOCs. So we know that for a variety of historical reasons racism is built into our lived environment and it's challenging to maintain cross racial friendshipsCross racial friendships happen within River City but I'm not suggesting everyone should go out and try to do this right now. For white LGBTQ people in particular it's on us to start showing up to public events like I attended
