CPython Dictionaries - What's the New Thing?

Dictionaries in particular are such an incredibly fundamental part of Python. So does it surprise you that new things are still happening in the CPython internals like dictionary got a major working in three, six? It doesn't really surprise me. Every at least once every decade, maybe twice, some major innovation happens in that area.
