The Denisovan Protein and the Sensory World of Long Dead People

Genome of Neanderthals was essentially the same as ours, and they would have been able to smell this particular odour. But we found a mutation that is not present in any human population or in any Neanderthal population. And then it's where it gets really exciting. We can actually reconstruct this protein equivalent to what the Denisovan protein was. So it's an incredible demonstration of modern science and technology. The carrots are one of only a very small handful of organisms that are capable of mimicking noises with uncanny accuracy. A team out of Duke University has uncovered the exact spot in the brain that gives parakeets their talent.
