The Importance of the Family in Islam

Gassim Amim wrote a book called the liberation of women in which he blamed Egyptians, Egyptian women's veiling, their lack of education and their slavery. He was influenced by Lord Kroma, who said that if Egypt became more like the West then it would make them backward. Houda Shawawi did a public unveiling of herself after returning from International Women's Selfridge Alliance Conference in Rome. This had an knock-on effect on understanding of the family as she took women out of the family to work or study. The British thought they needed to keep our women at home even more to protect them from this.
