Hard Drive Failure Modes and How to Recover Data From Hard Drives
With a hard drive, your most likely failure mode is just some blocks that suddenly you can't read. With SSDs, I've seen a lot more times where the drive either goes completely read only or it's full of zeros and all your data is gone. And in case anybody's curious, no, I do not believe putting anSSD in a freezer is ever going to bring it back from the dead.
